If you married someone from another country, how would the two of you decide where to live?

I offered to move to South America, but she thought it would be much harder for me to adapt than it would be for her to move to America.

Depends entirely on the circumstances. I'd be willing to move - but not to somewhere with no job opportunities, or somewhere I wouldn't fit in culturally.

(Of course, it's entirely possible that neither of us would be willing to move - in which case we'd just have to give up :( )

Compromise - you both move elsewhere, somewhere where neither of you have ever lived. That way neither one of you would resent the other one for being "forced" to abandon your home and move to their home territory.

If I were in that situation I'd only consider moving after I spent a significant amount of time in that other country (like maybe a couple months or more) and get a really good feel for the place. I'd hope my partner would do the same. Don't want to make a huge life changing decision without proper research.

Thankfully, me and the person I am with are from the same place so I don't need to go anywhere...

Married an American. I'm British. We both lived in our respective countries and I chose to move to America because she had just started her career and I had interest in getting my degree from a US college instead of a UK one.

I think a friend I've known since...uh...gosh...2006-2007 did. I think he married an Asian woman or so iirc.

Are US colleges better than UK ones?

I would say yes, because UK universities do not let you choose the times or days of your classes. You get what you get, including the teacher, and if you don't like it then go to another university. Everyone starts in Fall, so if you miss the boat you're waiting a whole year. Fail a single project in the whole year? You're retaking the whole year, rather than just the one class you failed like would be the case in the US.
Want to email a teacher? Couldn't do that in the UK when I was there, so tough shit if you need to ask something.

Sounds like they're a little too traditional, I'll bet our colleges were the same way back in the 50's. :p

I thought about doing that. I really really did. I talked to a girl who lived over in Vietnam for a while. I couldn't afford to bring her to the states so I resumed to seeing the local American girls that I'm used to.

Did you ever meet her in real life?

No. Due to a lack of funds, I felt our relationship was more of a fantasy. Something I couldn't have. Something that was never going to happen. It was a dream & it was time for me to wake up and look where I lived.

Yeah also the fact that you potentially had to fund her entire trip here means it was probably a catfish.

You never know with people living in small 3rd world countries. They're starving and they're desperate.
