CEO Reed Hastings has told investors that the company are looking to push customers towards higher pricing plans.

That means Netflix users can expect to see the standard HD package rise from $6.99 per month to $7.50.

But don’t panic just yet, existing users will be exempt from the price increase for one year.

And there will be no more sharing your boyfriend/girlfriend/parents/housemate/ex’s account.

Mr Hastings says Netflix will get tougher on password sharing.

The company says the price increase is so that it can add more TV shows and films and invest in Netflix exclusives such as Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and Orange Is The New Black.

wait what????? that make no sense
umm sorry to say that Netflix been 7.99 for HD 2 screen package for long time now
prices makes no sense since 11.99 for 5 screen ultra hd package already there and your only limited five profiles
this move makes no sense what so ever for netflix business wise and logic wise since netflix suppose be shared with the family
other wise there's no point

Idk about that time, but in 2022 Netflix sure has taken a serious dive and removal of plenty of shows (due to the former).

yeah... because that was nearly 7 years ago
nice nerco btw
Nah they had a new wave of fuckery again this year, including stuff with Blackrock. And thanks man, I've done that to about 50 threads this week.

I don't think they're going to stop raising prices. As long as people are paying, they're gonna keep doing it at a steady pace.

People are paying yeah, but aren't they like, getting fucked business-wise? Their stock dropped by a lot as well iirc.

It's getting there. I'm thinking eventually they'll get as expensive as Dish Network and DirectTV where people will just start cancelling and boycotting them. Then they'll be forced to lower their prices.

Holy fuck, I just checked and their stock dropped 50% this year. I knew it was bad but it's literally halved yikessssss.

Yeah I think they might also reverse back after the current economic situation is over. Btw, do you think they'll ever return back to their former glory? Because a lot of people ditched and I believe HBO Max is the preferred streaming platform rn.

Probably not. A lot of people lost faith in them over the Cuties controversy. Companies like Disney & Paramount don't want them streaming their movies anymore seeing as they started up their own streaming channels. I wouldn't be surprised if other studios followed suit. I think we're seeing the fall of Netflix.

I'm not surprised. HBO has always been a very popular channel, especially in the 90's.

Yeah I've lost hope too, though the one thing is that people won't subscribe to all those streaming services, leading us all back to square one. They still might have a chance after that but yeah. Do you subscribe to any yourself btw?

My girlfriend pays for a bunch of channels while I pay the Internet. She has Hulu, Netflix, Philo, and Disney +.

Before I got with her I just had a few free channels. I mainly just watched everything on Bluray and DVD.

I still like Netflix... but I don't pay for it and I don't even know how much it costs. :p

I still  my Netflix.
