Is it ethical for a woman to carry someone else’s child?

What should the children’s rights be in the case of surrogate pregnancy? The surrogate mother's?

Should surrogates be used for any reason or only for health reasons?

Should there be regulations on international surrogacy?

Surrogacy is a good thing, it helps those who can't conceive to have a child via a proxy, it's worth it for them, and while the surrogate makes a huge sacrifice, putting their body through hell for others, there are or should be contracts in place outlining that the child is not hers, that she's doing it for the people looking for a child.

Its great for women who cannot carry a child on their own. However I have heard of the surrogate mother getting attached and not wanting to give up the child. All those maternal instincts kick in when you're carrying a child but its not your child.

Yes. And in those cases the child is caught in the middle while the dispute goes on, sometimes for years.
Maybe in those instances when a couple is infertile it was just not meant to be?
Hard for an outsider looking in to understand why adoption would not be a better solution.

In that situation the surrogate mother is the actual biological mother?

I was talking about when a fertilized embryo was implanted into the surrogate and the surrogate mother shares no actual DNA with the baby in question.

I should think that would/possibly be the case in either situation. ?? Whether or not the woman shares the DNA she's going to form a bond with that baby.

This gets complicated!

Yeah, unless you get a sociopath to carry your child. Problem solved.

Hun Daneth is being forced by the Cambodian courts to raise the little boy or risk going to jail.
Doesn't seem like she is being forced to raise him if she loves him and thinks of him as her own

A Bangkok court has awarded paternity rights to a Japanese man over 13 babies he fathered through Thai surrogate mothers.
The article said all the women willingly forfeited their rights, wondering if they got a bribe?

I feel pretty sure that the women were paid to do this; that is why they were willing to.
I have heard/read that the pedophilia 'market' runs rampant in Thailand; I think that is the reason behind the government there trying to clamp down on this practice. The general public is very poor and women have little value.

Such a sad state of affairs over there. Hopefully it will change one day.

Yes, it is truly a beautiful country; a hot vacation spot for rich & famous.
My daughter spent a few years there teaching & living in a Buddhist monastery; she says the "common" people were friendly & wonderful & she loves the food.

That sounds like an awesome experience for your daughter!

I think it's ethical. But the expectations of all involved needs spelled out

Perhaps in a written and legally binding agreement before hand.

Motherhood is a privilege not an automatic right and that's all I have to say.

Ethical? Sure. If a person really wants to have a baby and cannot physically carry it themselves, the should not be denied the opportunity to have a child.

It is 100% ethical, there are plenty of parents who wish to have kids but cannot carry the child due to medical reasons. If it's a family member who is carrying the child, then the baby will still have some of the parents' DNA.
