Thanks @Crys for the thread idea.

For those who may not be familiar with the Red Ring of Death, it refers to error codes that the Xbox 360 would display on its power button. The rings oftentimes indicated that an Xbox 360 was no longer functioning, requiring users to send their systems in for repair.

Ever experience this? Was your xbox toast after that or did you get it working again?

Three times. Called 1800-4-my-xbox, got the coffin sent 3 times and had it "repaired" 3 times. Ugh.

Yep, I understand that! I still have my 360e, but wow were those first couple of generations of 360s bad!
Yeah, hardware wise they were a mess. It wasn't even wise to keep them standing vertically because it tended to scratch up the discs. Incredible library, though. I miss that first Xbox 360 UI with the blades.

Oh absolutely agreed, the blades were great!!

I only had one 360 and one was enough for me. I only had it about a month so I was still in within my warrant to take it back to the store. I tried to see if I could get it working myself but it was a no go and I'll admit I didn't feel like sending it off to anyone to repair if they could even do it.
I got my Xbox Series X to be able to play some of the 360 games I skipped.

Thank god this didn't happen to my Xbox 360. Though I never had a model with the Xenon motherboard in it, these were the earliest models that had design flaws which caused the red ring of death. The PS3 suffered from the yellow light of death, it's just people were more aware of the Xbox 360 having this issue. During the time the Xbox 360 and PS3 were being designed, ATI designed the GPU chips with ball solder joints, over time the board would overheat and cause these chips to desolder off the board which caused the red ring of death. This was the most common issue at least.

Yep, when you had the first model they stopped worrying about warranty and just fixed their mistakes
Thats great! ....they probably don't do that now I take it.

I'm thankful there's a video game store where I live that fixes consoles when they crap out on you. Personally, I have never had this happen to me.
